” Good marriages don’t just happen by luck or by accident”.
A good marriage is the result of a lot of hard work. It is a union of 2 imperfect people that refuse to give up on each other.
One of my favorite quotes is
“A successful marriage requires you falling in love many times, with the same person”
As a child we read fairy tales where the princess finds her prince charming and lives happily ever after. They will live in a castle and have perfect children and be the perfect little family. The end. No one tells you that that’s not how it is in real life.
Marriages are hard work. No one tells you that there will be good days and bad days. That your marriage will take work, that there will be days that you will question if prince charming is really prince charming or if the sweet princess is really the evil step sister. No one tells you that your castle might be a tiny apartment, that you will not be singing songs dancing around in a forest or that chances are that the toad is not prince charming and that after the kiss he will more likely still be a toad.
At the end of the day when you are feeling discouraged remember you have lived a very different life from your spouse. You might have the same main core values but your experiences and how things affect you is different. Don’t give up on your marriage. Work on it.
